My review and outlook for June. The topics are: Airspace awareness; SERA avoidance rules – basic rule; The Möllvalley Triangle; The Hardest Route – From Crash to Comeback; XC GUIDE: The classic FAI triangle of the Northern Alps – Flying in the Karwendel and GoPro falls from 1100 metres over ground and keeps recording.
Airspace sensitisation
In its VFR Pilot Info 01/2024, DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung) draws attention to the special features of Airspace E, as mixed IFR and VFR traffic takes place there. As we paragliders spend most of our time in this airspace, we should always bear this information in mind.
SERA evasion rules – basic rule
The DHV has published a series on evasion rules according to SERA (Standardised European Rules of the Air) on YouTube. In contrast to descriptions and illustrations in text and graphics, the short animations are more memorable and easier to understand.
The Möllvalley Triangle
A video from me after a long time. After several attempts, I managed the Mölltal triangle, even if only in the short version without flying over Zettersfeld and Weissensee. The video is accompanied by map and telemetry information.
The Hardest Route – From Crash to Comeback
The Redbull X-Alps is already history again. But Markus Anders’ video is still worth watching. It describes the long journey from the accident on the Unterberghorn to his preparations for the X-Alps.
XC GUIDE: The classic FAI triangle of the Northern Alps – Flying in the Karwendel
On Sunday, many pilots flew the so-called Karwendel triangle. But what do you need to bear in mind? There are a few pitfalls here, e.g. the TRA C north of Innsbruck must be activated. Dmitry Balabanov explains this and more in his very elaborately produced video.
GoPro falls from 1100 metres over ground and keeps recording
It’s amazing what a GoPro can withstand. According to the owner, the GoPro survived the fall from 1100 metres above ground without any damage. As the fall lasted 70 seconds, this corresponds to an average fall speed of 56.5 km/h. It probably only survived the fall because a mount was probably still attached to the GoPro. What is even more astonishing is that the pilot found the camera again. He explains how he did this in the video.
